The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a national-level entrance exam introduced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The CUET is conducted in a computer-based mode (CBT) with an objective-type format featuring multiple-choice questions. The exam consists of multiple sections designed to assess different skill sets of candidates.


1. Sections of the Exam


The CUET exam is mainly divided into three sections:

Section I: Language Proficiency

Sub-section IA: 13 Languages (Including English, Hindi, and regional languages) 

Sub-section IB: 20 Additional Languages (Including Sanskrit, French, German, etc.) Tests comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills are tested through questions like  reading comprehension, sentence completion, and other grammar-based questions.

Section II: Domain-Specific Subjects

Candidates choose from 27 subjects based on their chosen UG program. Questions are based on Class 12 syllabus and mainly comes from the standard curriculum book NCERT. Includes subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, accounting, Economics, History, Political Science, etc.

Section III: General Test

Tests general knowledge, logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and current affairs. Useful for admissions in programs that require general aptitude assessment.


2. Marking Scheme of CUET  (UG)


  • Each question carries 5 marks.

  • Negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer.

  • The number of questions varies across sections, but candidates must attempt a specific number from the given choices.

1. Language Proficiency Syllabus (Section I)


  • Reading comprehension (factual, literary, and narrative passages)

  • Vocabulary and word-meaning questions

  • Grammar-based fill-in-the-blanks and sentence correction


2. Domain-Specific Syllabus (Section II)


  • Based on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus for each chosen subject.

  • Key topics include:

Humanities

History: Indian & World History Political Science: Indian Constitution, Governance Geography: Physical & Human Geography


3. General Test Syllabus (Section III)


  • Logical and analytical reasoning

  • Numerical ability (basic arithmetic, ratio & proportion, algebra, probability, percentages)

  • General knowledge and current affairs, including national and international events

  • Data interpretation, charts, and graph-based questions
